Coffee trivia

Over a thousand aromas
Roasted coffee contains more than 800 aroma compounds — more than wine — which is why it can taste like chocolate, berries or nuts.
Top of the world
Finland drinks the most coffee per person, with Finns averaging around four cups a day.
It's actually a seed
Coffee “beans” are the seeds of a small red fruit called the coffee cherry. Most cherries hold two seeds; a single round one is called a peaberry.
Arabica vs. Robusta
Arabica is sweeter and more aromatic and makes up most of the world's coffee. Robusta is hardier and more bitter, with roughly twice the caffeine.
Kapeng barako
The Philippines' own barako is a Liberica coffee from Batangas and Cavite — big, bold and smoky, and a rare species worldwide.
The Bean Belt
Coffee grows best between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, where it's warm, wet and often high up in the mountains.
